Week of 30th September - What's hot on TV?

Let’s start with the new channel from the house of Star - Star World Premiere HD, which is going to showcase all the popular American TV shows with their latest episodes airing just one day after their release in the US. It comes with a hefty subscription of Rs 60 per month but imagine how exhilarating it would be to follow our favourite shows with the world and no more hassles of downloading so many GBs of data through unreliable torrents. It has a line up of leading shows like Modern Family, Homeland, Castle, White Collar, and the list goes on. It will be overwhelming to follow so many of my favourite TV series on Indian television and I am still chewing on the fact. So if you are a fan of English soaps, this channel is indispensable and totally worth it and if you are not then subscribe to this one for some quality content and you would know what all the fuss is about. All the shows are supreme in their respective genres but if I have to select one then I would recommend Modern Family, Season 5 and also you do not need to follow it from season 1 but once you start, I doubt you would be able to resist the first four seasons of awesomeness. As the name suggests it is a family drama but the drama is packed with hilarious entertainment and family ties are explored with intelligence and humour. Every character in this show is quirky and there is definitely a character that you would relate to. Also the freshness of every episode and lack of monotony makes it addictive. These qualities were last seen in ‘F.R.I.E.N.D.S.’ and we know what a hit that was. So subscribe to Star World Premiere HD and make the best of your TV time.

24’ is a widely acclaimed American TV series which is a suspense thriller in which every one hour episode is equivalent to a one hour period in real time and the entire season (24 episodes) is based on how events unfold in one action packed day. This show caught the fancy of our very own Anil Kapoor after he starred in one of the seasons as a central character. He decided to adopt it into a Hindi Television series. It is a bold step in the midst of stereotyped and stagnant Hindi soaps. They are sticking to the international script but adjusting it to the Indian political system and adding a little extra weight to family drama. Some great names form the cast starting with Anil Kapoor as the lead followed by Anupam Kher, Mandira Bedi and Tisca Chopra. It looks like we finally have a game changer to change the image of small screen in India. This show breaks the barrier of language and everybody has a chance to watch an intelligent and intricate show. It is starting 4th October, Friday on Colors at 10 PM, so set your reminders because this one can’t be missed.

For the reality show lovers, after ‘Rakhi ka Swayamwar’ we have a new entry in the genre, ‘The Bachelorette India- Mere Khayalon ki Mallika in Udaipur’. The attention magnet, Mallika Sherawat is the ‘bride to be’ looking for Mr. Right and 30 contestants will pour their hearts out to impress her. Rohit Roy is hosting the show. You could be drawn towards the heightened dramatics of the show or might get a good laugh at the lack of wits in the concept but either ways reality TV makes for good entertainment. Tune into Life OK on 7th October at 9:30 PM to follow the journey of Mallika “finding her soulmate”.
